Bio: Katie Duke grew up in Manchester, Tennessee and attended Coffee County Central High School, where she graduated in 2012. It was at CCMS on a field trip that she met her future husband; for that reason she always warns students to be careful who they sit beside on the bus! While in high school, she was a total nerd who sang in the choir, took AP and honors courses, hung out with her youth group, and wrote for the high school newspaper. She even sat in the very classroom where she now teaches her own students. Upon graduating, Mrs. Duke attended Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. She studied secondary education and English as well as consumed at least twice her body weight in chips and queso over the course of four years. After graduating in 2016, Mrs. Duke taught at Cascade High School in Wartrace, Tennessee for two years. Though it was extremely difficult leaving her first group of kids, she is thrilled to be back at her alma mater. Mrs. Duke identifies as an elderly person trapped in the body of a millennial. (Just ask her husband.) She enjoys going to bed before 10:00 p.m., reading (a few favorites include Fahrenheit 451, Jane Eyre, Night, Salt to the Sea, or basically whatever she's currently reading), traveling with her husband, singing the Hamilton cast album at the top of her lungs, and eating copious amounts of ice cream. Mrs. Duke is a believer in the power of words to change both individuals and the world; she hopes to instill that same love for language in each of her students as well as equip them with the tools they need to become effective citizens in their communities and the world beyond.
